Lucid Air Collision Repair: Why It Has to Be an Approved Shop

Lucid uses the word “approved,” not certified, and it applies to an address rather than to a company.

The Air is almost entirely aluminum, and Lucid’s own owner’s manual tells you where to take it. Here is what that means on the bench — and what to ask before you hand over the keys.

The short answer
  • Lucid says approved, not certified — and it applies to an address, not a company.
  • Aluminum structure is not straightened like steel, and steel tools contaminate it.
  • The manual asks for genuine Lucid parts at a Lucid-approved Service Center.
  • At Tony’s, Lucid work is completed at Oxnard, 497 Lambert St.

A Lucid Air is a very quiet car right up until somebody backs into it in a Camarillo parking lot. Then it gets loud: the estimate, and the question of who is actually allowed to do Lucid collision repair in the first place.

Lucid built the Air almost entirely out of aluminum, and Lucid’s own owner’s manual tells you where to take it. Our Oxnard shop at 497 Lambert St is a Lucid approved body shop, so this is the view from our side of the counter.

Why the Lucid Air’s aluminum body changes the repair

The aluminum room is a separate space with its own tools. That separation is the point, not a detail.

When Autobody News covered a New York shop earning its Lucid certification in December 2022, shop partner Eric Ross described the car in one sentence.

Eric Ross · partner, Precision Auto Works of LIC · Autobody News, Dec 2022

“Lucid is a unique platform and the Lucid Air is almost exclusively aluminum.” On what the training covered: “very hands on, with an emphasis on heavy structural repair”

According to the same Autobody News report on a shop adding Lucid collision repair certification, that training happened at a Lucid facility in Millbrae, California.

Aluminum does not behave like steel when it gets hit, and it does not behave like steel when somebody tries to fix it. It does not take a pull the way a steel rail does, and steel dust and steel tools contaminate it. That is why Tony’s has a dedicated Aluminum Room, separate from the steel side of the shop. Nobody has ever had a good day that started with the words “we tried to pull it.”

Lucid collision repair: what Lucid tells owners

Lucid’s Air owner’s manual has a section titled “Body Repairs.” Its instruction is one sentence.

Lucid Air Owner’s Manual · Body Repairs

“If you damage the vehicle in a collision, make sure a Lucid-approved Service Center repairs your car only using genuine Lucid parts.” The whole of what the manual says on the subject

On its ownership pages, Lucid describes the network behind that sentence: “If your Lucid requires repairs due to an accident or collision, we have a complete network of approved body repair centers across the country that we have hand-chosen for their expertise in repairing high-end electric vehicles, as well as their ability to meet the uncompromising customer service we aspire to at Lucid.” You can read that in Lucid’s own service and maintenance guidance for owners.

Put those together and the message is plain: genuine parts, fitted at a center Lucid has chosen. Notice what Lucid does not say. The manual’s body repair section does not spell out what happens to your warranty if a general shop does the work, and we are not going to invent a claim Lucid never made. An approved center is simply the route Lucid points you down.

How to check it without taking our word for it

Lucid publishes its own list of approved body repair centers and lets you filter the map to body shops. Search it for your area and compare the answer against whatever a shop tells you — including us. It takes a minute, and it is the only check in this article that does not depend on how convincing somebody sounds.

Before the insurer’s first number lands

Send us photos from the driveway.

We will tell you what the repair actually involves on an aluminum structure, where each operation happens, and what goes in writing before the car is on a lift.

Where the money goes on a Lucid repair

The cost gap between electric and gas repairs is smaller than the internet thinks. Mitchell’s Plugged-In: EV Collision Insights report for Q2 2026 put the US average repairable claim severity for a battery-electric vehicle at $5,684 against $4,955 for internal combustion — a $729 gap, and the lowest on record.

Mitchell’s Q3 2023 edition of the same report shows where that gap lives.

Repairs using manufacturer parts88.85%67.48%

On a Lucid, the genuine-parts instruction points the same direction, and the aluminum structure is where the labor hours go. Structural work on the Air happens on fixtures with measuring, which is what our structural repair equipment is there for.

What to ask a shop before you release a Lucid Air

Four questions, all with a right answer

Is this address a Lucid approved body repair center? Approval belongs to a facility, not a company. A shop that has done the training will tell you without hedging.

Does aluminum work happen in a separate area with separate tools? Listen for a specific answer rather than a shrug.

Who deals with my insurer? On a mixed-material luxury EV the first estimate and the final repair plan can be far apart, and somebody has to document every supplement.

What will you put in writing about parts and timeline before the car goes on the lift? A vague answer here is usually where the rental bill starts.

On the third one: that is what our collision claims management service does, so you are not the go-between.

Frequently asked questions

Which of Tony’s locations handles Lucid?

Oxnard, at 497 Lambert St. Our Ventura shop on Crescent St handles collision repair and estimates for other makes; Lucid work is completed at Oxnard. Approval is held by a facility, not by a company, which is exactly why the first question above is worth asking of every shop you call.

Can a regular body shop get genuine Lucid parts?

Lucid’s manual tells owners to have a Lucid-approved Service Center repair the car “only using genuine Lucid parts.” Whichever shop you are considering, ask how it sources Lucid parts and get the answer in writing before you release the car.

Can my insurer make me use its preferred shop?

No. California Insurance Code section 758.5 says an insurer may not require that a claimant use a particular repair shop — and may not even suggest or recommend one unless you asked for a referral, or you have been told in writing that you have the right to select the repair facility yourself. Check your own policy language, and if you are unsure, ask your agent to point to the clause.

How long will a Lucid Air repair take?

It depends on parts and on calibration. CCC’s Q4 2025 Crash Course data shows repairs with multiple calibrations averaging more than 17 days keys-to-keys. We will give you a written timeline once parts are confirmed, not before.

Does a repair at a non-approved shop void my Lucid warranty?

Lucid’s owner’s manual does not say that. It tells you to use a Lucid-approved Service Center and genuine parts. Those are instructions, not a stated consequence, and we are not going to add one Lucid never wrote.
